It is a tool to help self-reflect on personal choices and actions in life.
The I Ching (or Yijing, I Ging) is considered one of the oldest Chinese books. Mostly it is called: the Classic of Changes or Book of Changes. It describes a set of 64 hexagrams that represent 64 archetypical states.
Since ancient times it has been used to help people come in contact with their inner thoughts and align these with the greater force of the cosmos (depending on your personal spiritual perspective and background, this force may have different names: Dao, Gods Will, The Great Spaghetti, or Nature as a whole).
It is not a rigid rulebook but a guide and compass that aims to describe common patterns found in nature.

Keep in mind that Chinese is written in images that are rooted in cultural context and associations. That makes it pretty difficult to recreate specific wordings and translations into Western culture.
Some people have made it a lifetime project to decipher all the mystical images produced by the oracle. You can find a wealth of information and interpretations on how to interpret the hexagrams.
For me, the key is to observe your personal thoughts when reading the results. How do the words or images resonate with you and your question?
More often than not the oracle will return two results. The first represents the present state and the second is what it is changing into. A single hexagram is stable and strong.
There are many different ways to question the I Ching but all techniques include some form of random chance.
NOTE: More in-depth explanation regarding each technique will be added in the future as well as the possibility to enter the results manually.
Mostly the texts from the Richard Wilhelm translation are used as well as a few changes and additions based on research publications from the Eranos Foundation. I've also taken the freedom to simplify a few texts and add some of my own interpretations and wordings.
You can go very deep with this, but I will try to keep it simple. I will continue to update this app and add more information in the future.

If the app reloads (and the layout is a bit off) after starting, that is because I updated it. Just restart it and it should be back to normal. I'm working on a smoother update process.
In most cases it also helps to clear the browser cache for oracle.dev-zoo.net and/or reinstall the app from the website to fix most issues.
